Making Headbands

Aaah, grandchildren. There is nothing quite like them. My one and only lives in Colorado and I consider myself fortunate if I get to see her 2 or 3 times a year. So we talk on the phone, and I send her cards and gifties, just like all good Grandma's do. Olivia is 3 now and her mama tells me she likes to wear headbands these days, so I thought I would try and make a few to send.

I'm not real crazy about all the bodacious headbands I see, so I thought I would just try and make her a few pretties she can wear every day. A little ribbon, trim and glue....

I'll stick these in the box I'm preparing for her as a little surprise. Geez, I miss her face. Love you Liv. oxoxoox

Puzzle Swap

These large puzzle pieces were altered for a puzzle swap at Paper Artists Online. They are very different in design, The first one was stamped and colored with with glaze pens. The stamps are from Unity and Cocoa Daisy.

The second puzzle piece was stamped and lightly colored with colored pencils. The stamps are from LaBlanche and Club Scrap.

.The colors aren't as bright as they should be in the photos, gray days here, making it difficult to get decent photos.

Trash to Treasure Clutch

From trash to treasure with fused plastic. This great idea came from the January 2009 issue of Cloth, Paper, Scissors. The artist was Alisa Burke, sharing this great technique.

I laugh at trash to treasure...because I always save my grocery bags and use them for trash. This is not a perfect technique, but I found it very interesting. You fuse 8 grocery bags together, ink, paint, collage, stamp, stitch...whatever your heart desires and sew it into a clutch.

Here are 8 grocery bags, that were pressed between paper to fuse them. Makes a wonderful durable surface.

After I sprayed with colorwash, glimmer mists and painted with acrylics and stamps, this is what the paper looked like.

A little close up so you can see the wonderful texture.

I sewed a handmade paper to the back of the plastic for the liner.

Then haphazardly stitched all over the paper, before I did the final stitching to make the clutch. When you're finished you seal the fused plastic with a water based polyeurethane.

Deer Widows Weekend

Here in northern Michigan people take their deer hunting season seriously. They even close the school districts for the day...really. My husband and son hunt, and I prefer not to be within hearing distance of gunshot on opening weekend, so I usually make the trek to my girlfriends house in Ann Arbor to avoid the whole situation. This usually transpires into some crafty goodness and this trip was no exception. My friend had a stack of unfinished wood products, trays, frames, boxes and a lovely set of drawers, which she allowed me to play with.

I also covered a tray for the holidays.

It was a wonderful relaxing weekend, thanks Bon. Nothing like spending some time with a friend doing what you love most...playing.

Altered Boxes

I had a friend visiting over the weekend and we managed to craft most of the weekend. We did a variety of projects, but today I'm going to share our altered boxes. Using a newsprint background, we did an embossed resist on the paper and then brayered ink. The boxes were then decoupaged with a satin finish. We didn't have time to do anything more with them. But I think I like mine, the small one, just as it is.

It's not often that I get to craft with a friend and we just had a wonderful time. Do you have friends that you're able to craft with regularly?

Altered Microscope Slide Mailer

I'm participating in a one for one altered project swap. We are altering microscope slide mailers. I actually made this microscope slide mailer to accommodate a 2" square glass frame so there would be a larger 'playground'. The whole project is coated in beeswax with pieces of gold and red leafing. I hope the recipient enjoys it, she should receive it this week.

Paper Pin

There was a major cyber creative weekend on one of the forums that I belong. Directions were given to make this paper pin. This is about all that I was able to finish over the weekend as I worked. I def resemble this statement! The stamp was by Paula Best. It was assembled on a bottle cap. This was fun...
